Tied Beans in Charcoal
H490mm x W900mm
This bunch of beans left on a window ledge to dry was intended for sowing in the vegetable garden. In the interval between the Autumn and the following Spring, they became a study in Charcoal. The undulations of the surface and the shriveled skin caught the light at interesting angles, making the shadowed areas very dark and dramatic. Tied rope or string in art always creates a point of tension.
