Flowering Gum

Flowering Gum (Corymbia ficifolia)
Height 250 mm x Width 250 mm

Known to many as the flowering gum of Western Australia, this painting of Corymbia ficifolia was drawn and painted in the Australian winter from a specimen grown in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The blossom was quite exquisite and suited enlarging the subject so that all the details could be seen. This proved to be a very complex and engrossing work to execute, partly due to the flowers’ fragile nature as well as the incredibly fine detail as seen in the blossom stamens.
