Creating shadow colours for yellow flowers is well recognised as taxing on both skill and creativity. It took some experimentation to develop a method that worked. As with the Liriodendron tulipifera, I found that overlaying colours was the most successful way of working to produce the best result. The spiralling centre was a joy to paint, although very demanding to execute. This was indeed a complex commission.
