Sea Weed
510mm x 730mm
The sea weed painting was inspired by a huge find of dried seaweed lying high on a beach in Northern New South Wales, washed up after high seas and storm force gales. Although the dead forms of the sea weed languished in great heaps upon the sand, their glorious twisted forms echoed their once live state, swaying in forests under the water. Having been ripped from their anchorage on the sea bed by the storm, it seemed important to show the swaying motion of the stems, leaf and root drifting in sinuous movement across the page, as if they were once more carried adrift by an ocean current.
