Pine Cap Mushroom

The Pine Cap Mushroom can be found occasionally growing under the pine trees, bordering a field, near my studio. This specimen was a prince when compared to the torn and sad pine cap mushrooms to be found in the local market place. The painting was executed over 3 seasons. Some years, they do not appear at all no matter how thoroughly they are searched for. It was a thrilling project to capture the gills which required such a wide palette and the outer skin has a strange glaucous quality, not unlike magnolia petals. |
