Organically grown tomatoes have such interesting colours and shapes, far more rewarding to paint than the commercial varieties. The composition is balanced by the drying leaves and stems, with a wonderful array of contrasting greens set against and lying over the red, orange and deep pink/red to be found in the skins of the fruit. These tomatoes remind the artist that red is rarely red. Rather the outer skin is made up of many different overlaying pigments from the warmer end of the colour spectrum. |
